Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney

It is always sensible to ensure that your affairs are in order. Making a Will is a significant part of ensuring that your assets pass to your loved ones or those you would wish to inherit. Also you can look at the effect of Inheritance Tax upon your estate and what planning measures can be undertaken.

We are expert in advising you in respect of making a Will or making changes to an existing will so that this reflects your current circumstances.

We are also able to provide our services as Executors by appointment in your Will.

Lasting Power of Attorney are a very important part of planning for your future and to ensure that those you love can look after your affairs in the event that you become incapable of managing your affairs due to mental or physical incapacity.

The process of making a Lasting Powers of Attorney is quite involved and requires serious careful consideration. We have considerable experience in advising regarding Lasting Powers of Attorney and management of the affairs of people who have lost capacity or may lose capacity. This is often more important than making a Will as it ensures that your affairs are protected and looked after whilst you are alive but in the event that you have become incapable.

The alternative with which we can also assist, where a person has not made a Lasting Power of Attorney but has become incapable. In these circumstances an application needs to be made to the Office of the Public Guardian for the appointment of a Deputy. This is an involved procedure which take several months to complete, but with sympathetic assistance we can guide you through this. Please telephone Michael McGarry.
